A new metric, agentic-eCAL, is introduced to evaluate the energy cost of distributed AI workflows, specifically for agentic AI in the edge-cloud continuum. The study finds that inter-agent text transport is not the dominant energy cost, but rather the additional inference and context processing induced by communication.
